For successful registration and shortlisting in the World Trade Organization (WTO) Young Professionals Programme YPP 2023, applicants are urged to complete all application guidelines and instructions.
The application closing date for the World Trade Organization (WTO) Young Professionals Programme YPP 2023 is May 11, 2022, with a monthly salary of CHF 4,000.
The Young Professionals Programme (YPP) of the World Trade Organization (WTO) aims to attract and retain employees who meet the highest levels of competence, efficiency, and integrity. The WTO, as an Equal Opportunity Employer, values both merit and diversity.

General Functions

The selected Young Professional will be assigned to a specific Division of the WTO Secretariat in conformity with the Organization’s tasks and objectives, as well as the Young Professional’s specified areas of interest.
Each Young Professional may declare interest in a maximum of three areas of WTO work, in order of preference.
The following (in alphabetical order) are examples of possible job areas:

  • External relations
  • Government Procurement
  • Intellectual Property Rights
  • Investment Facilitation for Development
  • Micro, Small, and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSMEs)
  • Market Access (tariffs and non-tariff barriers)
  • Sanitary and Phytosanitary measures
  • Technical Barriers to Trade
  • Trade and Development
  • Trade and Environment
  • Trade Facilitation
  • Trade Finance
  • Trade and Gender
  • Trade-in Services and Investment
  • Trade Policy Analysis
  • Trade-Related Technical Assistance.
  • Trade Remedies (anti-dumping and countervailing duties)
  • Accessions
  • Agriculture
  • Climate change
  • Communications
  • Council and Trade Negotiations
  • Digital Trade
  • Dispute Settlement

Qualifications Required

Education:
Advanced university degree in economics, econometrics, international relations, law, environmental studies, or other trade-related areas relevant to WTO work and/or current WTO discussions (e.g. international investment law, trade, gender, etc.).
By the time they submit their application, applicants must have earned a master’s degree from a recognized university.
Skills and knowledge:
Knowledge about the WTO’s work in general.
Technical expertise in one or more of the work areas listed above.
You should be able to speak good English.
It would be advantageous if you could write in French and/or Spanish.
The ability to operate individually and as part of a team in a multicultural environment.
Show strong interest in international trade and the multilateral trading system.
Commitment and enthusiasm to trade or the World Trade Organization-related work.
Working Experience:
At least two (2) years of professional experience in a field related to the WTO’s work is required.
Languages: Fluency in English.
It would be advantageous to have a working knowledge of either French or Spanish.
