Job Alert: Apply for a University Librarian at UNILORIN
With effect from October 12, 2022, the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) has declared that the position of University Librarian will be vacant.
Dr. Fola Olowoleni, the Registrar and Secretary to Council issued a statement on Wednesday confirming this.
According to the statement, the Council has decided to begin the process of appointing a new University Librarian in accordance with the provisions of the Universities (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act No. 11 of 1993, as amended by Act No. 25 of 1996, and the Universities (Miscellaneous Provisions) (Amendment) Act 2012.
“The University of Ilorin Library, founded in 1975 with its parent institution, the University of Ilorin, is a second-generation academic library.
“Over 200,000 volumes of books, pamphlets, periodicals, theses, dissertations, and government papers are housed in the Main Library.”
“The total seating capacity is currently 4,688, with 2,392 in the Main Library and 2,296 in the College of Health Sciences, Law, Veterinary, Electronic Library, and Branch libraries,” according to the statement.
The University Library, according to the statement, uses a hybrid system, with collections mostly based on program consideration.
It reported that the Library employs 116 people, including 23 professionals, 71 paraprofessionals, and 22 non-professionals.
“As a result, applications from appropriately qualified applicants for the position are invited.” The candidate must have a minimum of 15 years of relevant experience, a Master’s degree in Library Science, and a Doctorate degree, among other qualifications.
“The successful candidate shall serve for a single five-year term,” it continued.
