JUST IN: FG Announces New Polytechnics In 3 States

Three new federal polytechnics have been authorized by the federal government of Nigeria.
The three federal polytechnics would be located in Abia, Delta, and Kano states, according to a statement made by the Federal Ministry of Education’s director of press and public relations, Ben Goong, in Abuja on Tuesday.
According to Punch Newspaper, the sanctioning of the new institutions comes just weeks after the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics threatened to strike if the Federal Government did not revitalize the country’s current polytechnics.
Anderson Ezeibe, the president of the ASUP, told members of his union in Yola, Adamawa state, that his members should be prepared to go on strike.
The education ministry, on the other hand, maintained that the development of the new polytechnics was in keeping with President Muhammadu Buhari’s desire to make tertiary education more accessible to the people.
“President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the establishment of three New Federal Polytechnics in the country, in keeping with his goal to make tertiary education more accessible.
“The Polytechnics would be located in Umunnoechi in Abia State, Orogun in Delta State, and Kabo in Kano State,” said Ben Bem Goong, Director, Federal Ministry of Education, Press and Public Relations.
“Academic activity at the new institutions will begin in October 2022. The number of Federal Polytechnics in the country now stands at 36. “Each of the Federation’s states now has its own Federal Polytechnic,” the statement reads.
